THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT BE CAUGHT READING AT THE GYM

1. The Biography of Immanuel Kant

Skully Ho!

Canada needs its very own cheers.  The delightful folks at "Cheers for Canada" (Molson?  Steamwhistle?) have decided to hold a little competition to coin a new drinking salutation.  Vote for my friend Thom's entry, which is facing such tough competitors as "be safe eh" and "no way."
(Added incentive: If he wins, he gets a ton of free beer...which we all benefit from.)
(UPDATE: If he wins, he gets a free party...so it's not so much if he wins, but rather if we win.)

I grew up reading Maira Kalman, author of such perrenial classics as "Sayonara, Mrs. Kackleman" and "Chicken Soup, Boots." Following a monthly illustrated blog she did in 2006-07 called "The Principles of Uncertainty," she started absolutely fantastic politically (Obama)-themed blog called And the Pursuit of Happiness for the NY Times in 2009.

My image of her when I was a kid was of a dotty New York Jew obvlivious to the world around her, totally engrossed in writing and illustrating books for me, and other kids, to enjoy. This series proves otherwise, but stays loyal to the kid in all of us.

why I follow The Slog

This survey is not conclusive or irrefutable (like any survey), but certainly in line with my own undergraduate experience. Possibly because University Of Toronto could be considered more socially conservative (and by that I mean have no social scene to speak of) than a small, women's liberal arts college in New England. Now I know why I transferred from English to Art History!

keeping track of the gang

the lives of all "that 70s show" alum will never cease to captivate me, despite an ever-dwindling interest (i swear!) in b-grade celebrity culture.

Ashton's Naughty Twitter
Wilmer Valderrama and Rihanna Dating?

(I can't believe I forgot to mention Ashton's feud with Dan Savage.)
