Stranger: Do you know what an extra is?
Me: Yes.
Stranger: Have you ever considered working as an extra?
Me: No.
Stranger: I'm going to be honest with you. I work in the porn industry.

(Hey, it tops having a bagel thrown at you! Yes, A BAGEL.)

Paul Sculfor

The Divine Miss V

JFK, Gore Vidal and Tennessee Williams

Have you met President Clinton?
Yes – and I like Bill. My family is Southern. I’m used to Bill Clintons. The country apparently wasn’t, though. At the time of his impeachment trial, I wrote a defense of him. When he claimed, “I didn’t have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky,” he was totally accurate.
You believe him?
He was talking Southern. In the South, sex is when you put it in and pump away and there’s a danger of a baby. That’s “sexual relations.” Anything else is what we called in school “messing around.” And all Southern boys messed around.

...

So what’s your take on Polanski, this many years later?
I really don’t give a fuck. Look, am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s been taken advantage of?

I thought I hated Glee because I didn't go to high school; however, here's a more compelling argument as to why it sucks.

They still seem dated, don't they?

Recently, a friend took a business trip to Austin, Texas, and ended up at the QUA Bottle Lounge: a bar with a shark tank.
Needless to say, PETA has a problem with this place.

Big Bird gets shut down!

Al Aareen

Toronto Star

My latest television crush: Robert Herjavec of CBC's Dragon's Den and ABC's Shark Tank. There's something so refreshing about a reality television show that just rips people and their ideas apart without any narrative framing or celebrity posturing. The dragons, or sharks, depending on the country, are also completely frank about their greed. The show originated in Japan, of course, but is now syndicated around the world in places like Lebanon and Nigeria. I thought I didn't have a reason to go to Africa, and now I do.
To learn more about Robert's inspiring life, read here.

On Tuesday afternoon I went to hear George Elliott Clarke read from his latest book, I&I. After the reading, an audience member asked him about how he started writing. His response was the following poem. Clarke claims (doubtful, and I mean that as a compliment) that this was the first thing he ever wrote. This poem told him he was supposed to be a poet.
